June 07 Honey, I'm Hooooo-mmmme!Well. I have just been busier than a one-armed paper hanger lately.. We have been twirling at a fever pitch around the lake. My niece, M, has graduated high school, selfishly also turning 18 the same week, so there were TWO milestones to celebrate. My bro and his wife were here, so we got a good visit, then they took M to Peru for a couple of weeks, to visit Macchu Pichu, Cuzco, Lima, etc.. My SIL is from there, so they will stay with family, part of the time at their beach house.. must be nice..lol They're having a great time.. Here are a couple of pics of her at her prom, and her senior pic.. Not that I'm proud, or anything...
And, in other news, we had the big yearly Auxiliary Barbeque today! We had it at our local horse ranch, in the arena.. we had pony rides for the kids, (and one adult) live music, boneless ribs, chicken and sausage, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, your choice of almost any kind of desserts, door prize drawings, a bake sale, with those cinnamon rolls we had last fall.. remember those, Maria and Kelly??LOL We had a blast. We didn't have quite the turnout we wanted, but it was a success, and the pony rides were quite popular! But, now I'm dead tired!! So, I think I'll go and save more rambling thoughts for another post.. You all be good, and get to blogging! Don't be a slacker like I've been! May 12 Spring Swap!!Well, hello again!! Sorry I'm late for our swap reveal! I've been sick, then busy, and then having photo challenges!! I was Shannon's "giftee" this time, and am I glad! She is so clever. I got a HUGE box, filled with gifts and peanuts which my cats have truly enjoyed. Inside were 4 lovely gifts, wrapped in my favorite color... PURPLE! Plus a wonderful pack of Violet candies, and a beautiful note card! YUM. Then, opening them!! There was a lovely journal, perfect for blog ideas, or a great prayer journal, some note cards and a notepad, all with a great design. There was also a great dish with a blackboard center and a piece of chalk! And I got a Joy Jar!!!! Yea! The greatest joy thoughts on pieces of paper..when you need a dose of joy, you just open one up! And it's a pin cushion on the lid.. How handy is that?? Then there was an adorable apron to wear while I cook! I needed one, too.. It's a beautiful bright floral pattern. THEN, there is a bath set of wonderful shower gel, lotion, and a great scrunchii for them. All things to pamper myself and improve myself!! What a wonderful gift box! And the candy tastes just like lavender smells. I'll get a pic up as soon as I resolve the weird problem I'm having with downloading.. This was so much fun! Thank you so much Shannon! You're such a creative person! I love these swaps! March 11 Sorry!Sorry I've been sooooo absent lately! I've just been very, VERY busy! My bff has been off on vacation days, and seems to think I should spend more time with her when she's home all week!! She's about to kill me! We also had an Auxiliary meeting last week. Very weird stuff going on there! And I will be on the board for ANOTHER YEAR!!! Just shoot me now! Anyhoodle... my bff and I decided to make some Chinese food.. we used to do this fairly frequently.. it's somewhat hard, and time consuming.. but absolutely wonderful. So, we made our menu, bought our stuff, and Saturday I went to town to chop and slice, and spend the night so we could start early Sunday to feed 6 or 8 people.. It was a wild time, folks.. but we finally prevailed. Then, we did it again today!!! We're nothing if not psychotic! But, I must say, we are the queens of Chinese food. You won't get food that good in the buffet line.. and you'll never find egg rolls that good!! We made: egg rolls(40), crab rangoon(100), sweet and sour shrimp, beef and vegetables in oyster sauce, fried rice, steamed rice, and banana pudding for dessert. Every bite was homemade, chopped, sliced, etc from scratch.. not a pre-prepared bite in the bunch!! J thinks it was harder than I do.. I think the main thing was just not having done it for a while, it was hard to get organized. It was much easier today.. but, umm umm good! And this weekend is our Soup and Chili Luncheon with the Auxiliary!! Next week I'm collapsing, as I so richly deserve to!!lol So, sorry I haven't been around for a while.. I'll be back!! February 17 Valentine's Day Swap!Well, I got my Valentine's Swap today from Nora, a new "swapper", and it is FABULOUS!! She couldn't have picked anything better for me! It's a beautiful cookbook, from the Symphony Guild near her.. It is all Southwestern food (Mexican and tex-mex)(YUM), and even has art in it! They have quite a few artists that allowed them to copy an original oil painting and place them at intervals in the book! They're wonderful.. I can tell what I'm going to be doing for a while! Cooking out of this book!!
For those of you wondering, my Dad is doing great! He's still getting physical therapy, and the nurses are drawing labs and teaching him, and watching him. His doc is very pleased with the way things are going.. Thank you all for all the prayers and good thoughts sent to him!! February 11 Tornadoes- Are we in Oz? Well, we are all still alive! The horrible tornadoes were centered more to the southwest of us. It's awful when a twister touches down..if it stays down, there's damage as far as the eye can see. And so many strange stories. Everyone in Oklahoma has their tornado stories! There are so many of them every year, that we all have ours. Tornadoes can do very odd things, like put a straw straight through a board without breaking it, or totally demolishing one house on a block and only minimal wind damage to everything else around it. Or demolishing an apartment complex, and leaving some cabinets standing with a puppy inside, unhurt. All we had was some big wind, heavy rain, thunder, and lightening , which is fine by me!! I love thunderstorms, but I'm not fond of tornadoes. Although I admit to being like most Oklahomans, which means we run outside when we hear the sirens, or hear on the TV to seek shelter!!LOL It is a little unusual to have February tornadoes, as it must be warm enough to spawn them. But, it's been in the 60's and 70's this week, so I guess it was long enough to do it.. I hope everyone else's week is going a little more calmly! January 14 Well..Well, what a week! Today it was 50 degrees.... three hours later it's 23, with a wind chill of 14, going toward 7 tonight!! I think you northerners need to keep your cold temperatures!! LOL I started a fire in the fireplace a bit ago. Naturally, I had things I had to do outside after it started getting cold. Thanks to all for all the prayers, good vibes, and wishes.. My dad had surgery Monday morning, and came home Tuesday night.. He's uncomfortable, but doing very well. It went just as his doctor thought, although worse than she thought.. and she thinks he will recover fully, and have MUCH less pain from here on out. We're thrilled. Just have to get him healed up, now.. He's a horrible patient. I think I take after him And I'm getting used to only two cats.. it's actually kind of nice, since I only have two hands! But, I still miss my Magic.. I've had LOTS more drama from Florida, but I'll spare you..I continue to learn more about people as I wander along through life, and I find them fascinating... occasionally very sad, and sometimes happy, but not usually boring. Or is this only the people I associate with? And I didn't know they were going to start showing LOST tonight!! They are showing the last few episodes of last season, in preparation for next weeks premiere.. I am fastened securely to my new TV I got after Christmas!!! Well, I think I've run down, now.. be back soon.. I'm double posting some of my entries, just until some people have gotten settled.. November 04 Whoopie!WOOHOO! Voters are getting out all over!! We even had lines out here! I think we only have about 1000 registered voters.. maybe more, but we'd already had 700 by 4pm!! That's just phenomenal.. My dad is the Precinct Inspector, so we always know what's going on.
I hope everyone did their civic duty and made your voice heard!! You're not allowed to bitch if you didn't vote! The election workers are having a blast, having soooo many people! We've had quite a few screw up their ballots this time.. They pick a straight Dem or Rep ticket then go down and vote for another party person!! Nope, lady, one or the other!!LOL Fortunately, Oklahoma has good machines that verify them, and count... it tells them something is wrong, so the workers can figure it out and have them fix it.. I think at 4pm, they already had 10 or 12 screwed up ballots, and usually we don't even have one!!LOL We have a lot of older people up here.. and they get confused, sometimes. No matter who you're for, or who's elected, I think we're in for some major changes in our world.. Actually so much of this doesn't even have anything to do with the President.. it's the Congress.. and other entities... There's a lot W has been blamed for, that he had no control over.. (he did enough in the areas he could control, I'll agree)..LOL Sure not a job I'd want.. anything you do, someone hates you!!! There's just no simple answers to any of our problems..Well, we had our usual pitiful Halloween, here. We had TWO very nice trick-or-treaters! They were actually the kids of one of Kate's bff's, who took pity on me, I guess! LOL So we got a 6 year old witch, and a 3 year old Spiderman! They both really wanted cats, rather than candy! Maybe I should have thought about sneaking a cat into their bags?!? October 26 Craft Fair!!Well, the 2008 Craft Fair of the Women's Auxiliary of the * * Fire Department is history! Thank God! *smile* I am exhausted. Sorry I haven't been around, but I started Thursday, and didn't quit til yesterday afternoon. With the economy being like it is, we could certainly see it reflected in the attendance yesterday. On the other hand, most of those that came, came prepared to buy. Most of our vendors were satisfied with their day.. which is great. We didn't do as much in the lunchroom as we'd hoped, but we made more profit on this than we do almost anything else during the year, and we did well. It's hard not to think of how much more we'd have done if we'd had the same attendance as last year, but we made as much money!! We profited over $1100, which is wonderful!! We'll be able to buy ALL the Wildland Fire Boots for the firefighters this Christmas!! As well as give a gift to the hospice and the crisis line we also like to give to!! So, we're contented. I only have the rough figures, so far, because I don't have all the costs.. But our president was very relieved when I called her last night. We were worried, because of the lower attendance, about what we made. But our Bake Sale was GREAT!! The ladies really baked up a storm, and we sold them briskly! And, of course, the homemade cinnamon rolls helped! That's probably what made the difference. So.. today I'm content, and exhausted.. And I even got a brand new, very stylish, purse! Wish you could have all come down for it!!October 19 Howdy Spaces!!Isn't it a wonderful feeling when you get something and it's EXACTLY what you wanted it to be? I don't get that too often, but my new phones are wonderful!
I'm kind of sorry I had to buy them, but they are too cool!! And I finally got a couple of features I've been wanting. LOL Sometimes it's the little things that make us happy! It's been a very busy week.
I've been gone, I've been sick, I've been exhausted. It's been a very bad week, in some respects, yet I'm pretty satisfied. I did get a lot of stuff accomplished! AND I got to taste Irn Bru!! Chris (Yellow) has nattered about Irn Bru
And now for something completely different:
Perks of reaching 50, 60 or heading towards 70!
01. Kidnappers are not very interested in you. 02. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first. 03. No one expects you to run--anywhere. 04. People call at 9 pm and ask, did I wake you? 06. There is nothing left to learn the hard way, or not as much. 07. Things you buy now probably won't wear out. 08. You can eat supper at 4pm, and no one will argue. 09. You can live without sex but not your glasses. 10. You get into heated arguments about pension plans, instead of politics. 11. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge. 12. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room. 13. You can sing along with elevator music. 14. Your eyes won't get much worse. 15. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off. 16. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service. 17. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either. 18. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size. 19. You can't remember who sent you this list. And you notice this is in Big Print for your convenience! LOL A few of these do hit a nerve!! Hope all of you have a great week.. October 08 Lightening RodWhat do I look like?? A lightening rod?? I promise I'm not 15 feet tall, round and shiny!! Friday night we had another thunderstorm.. not uncommon here. I don't think I've ever heard louder thunder and lightening! It was right on top of us! And, I heard a "CRACK" that shook all the windows, and sounded like it was right outside my window. I know I'm getting tired of buying new phones! September 29 Moonflowers, part deuxWell, it's that time of year.. does anyone want any Moonflower seeds? We had a great growing year, and Nadine had a wonderful planting from our seeds, too!! In fact, hers may have outdone ours!!LOL Which is great! If you'd like some moonflower seeds, just message me your address. I have an instruction sheet I'll send with them. Moonflowers are similar to morning glories, but they open during dusk and are gone the next day about 8 or 9 am. Those flowers wilt and die.. they only open once. The vine keeps putting on flowers for a month or more. At the end of the season, they put out these spiky balls full of seeds. Just let them dry and they'll open up and reseed themselves, and can be given away. They are perennials in tropical type weather, and annuals in colder climates. And they smell INCREDIBLE!! Kind of a cross between a gardenia and a rose, and you can smell them just walking by the plant! They are quite beautiful, and a conversation starter!
So.. if you'd like some, just send me your address!! They are easy to grow! They like full sun, and don't care if the ground's hard.. September 23 ThanksThanks to all my Spaces friends for the support, good thoughts, prayers, and messages you've given me. It's helped me to keep moving. We've spent a lot of the last several days at my uncle's, with my family. My cousin, S, especially is having a hard time. She was named for my aunt.. I think she may be reliving her mom's passing.. So, we've been spending some time together. Life is just hard, sometimes, when you have to say good bye. Although it does help for the preacher to be very old and forgetful. It can be a great comic relief at a funeral!! I think my aunt would have appreciated it.. No.. I didn't get the church laughs!
And all of us tend to play with the babies when it's like that!! Fortunately, every generation seems to be getting more prolific!! So, we've been buried in about 8 or 9 little ones from 8 months to 7 years!! Life goes on... Thanks, my friends.. September 12 Busy, busy, busyWell, I've been in meetings most of the week! Board meetings, auxiliary meetings, you name it. Finalizing stuff for the craft fair, planning to get the boots for the firefighters,
finding out the next items on the chief's "wish list".. there's no rest for the wicked! Thursday, had to go to town with Mom for "errand" day. Just lots of those pesky little errands that refuse to do themselves! One I wouldn't have had to do if the USPS site would do what it was supposed to!! I had to fill out a form for customs to mail a couple of boxes. It said it would fill them out for me online... yeah.. not so much. I tried for almost an hour, as I would have to go to the Post Office to get one, if this didn't work.. finally gave up.. already had my postage labels printed and placed on the boxes, or I would have given up more easily!! Stupid sites. Fortunately, the Post Office wasn't too busy, so it wasn't too hard to get the forms, fill them out, and hand the stupid boxes to the clerk. I hate having to do it, as it's very hard for me to carry much, with my challenges, and usually I can just print my labels, and viola!! It's easy to get out to the mailbox, where they pick it up. So, Mom had to go in and help me! And she had just had her hair done, and it was raining.. you can imagine the trouble I was in!!!LOL Fortunately, she has a hair protector-thingy she wears. So, I didn't have to pay with my life!!Well, Ike is already flooding Texas. I used to live in Galveston! Looks like my apartment is already under water! I hope all our Spaces friends are safe down there..
Ike is supposed to come up here and hit us! Of course, Texas will take the starch out of him (thanks Texas!!), so we'll hopefully just get some rain and wind. That's just normal for Oklahoma!! If anyone wants to come up here to get away, come on!! Angie, Kat, Joisey, Cin, GP, Jen, and any others, all ya'll take care and be careful! We're praying for your safety. Hope everyone has a great weekend!! August 28 People are amazing!
July 09 I'M BAAACCK!!
I finally got my baby back from the computer hospital!! It was very stressful having her in the hospital so long. Well, I got to meet one of my fellow bloggers! Stephanie!! She and her three girls are following the mother road this summer.. Route 66!! I got to stay a couple of days in the nearest Small town. My bff was on vacation, and she and her dad needed to go to Texas to see a relative that was ill.. So, I went in and dog-sat a couple of days, and washed blankets in her large washer and dryer! Tuckered myself out!LOL OK.. you all have to see the latest trick of Miss Maddie.. Jenn has posted a video of Maddie on her myspace, which is public. So, if you want to see what amuses us, go watch her amazing talents!!LOL You should have been here for our Fourth of July celebration!! And the fun never ends.. Monday, after bidding John and Rosanna good-bye, Mom and I had a board meeting at 3, then we had to decorate the firehouse for the meeting that night, which was a Crisis Line speaker, and open to the public. Every month, two or three different members provide the refreshments for the meeting, and a little decorating. Nothing too elaborate, (unless you're my mother) just mainly on the serving table. Since it is July, we decorated for the Fourth, (of course)
Well, I guess I've caught you all up on the latest boring details of my life!! At least I enjoy myself! I'll get around and catch up.. don't hate me if I comment on old posts. The laptop I was using was great to be able to read, but it uses Win 98. Now I remember why XP seemed so great in comparison! For some reason, it didn't want to comment in Spaces! It had less problem with blogspot, etc., but in spaces, it took forever, stalled, hiccuped, anything.. I lost patience many times, and decided I didn't need to comment that badly.. sorry. But, I'm up and going now!! June 20 Mother Nature's at it again!!!Darn electrical storms!! Well, I got fried last night! A HUGE lightening bolt hit right outside, and fried my computer, phone lines, ALL.. No one around has phones and two others lost their computers, too! I'm at my dad's writing now.. If and when I get phone, I can get on my laptop, but til then I'll be limited! So, I'll see you as I can pry Dad off his computer!!LOL Oh, well, mother nature at her finest! Be good til I get back!!! June 18 What I Try to BeA strong woman works out every day to keep her body in shape...
but a woman of strength kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape
A strong woman isn't afraid of anything...
but a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of fear.
A strong woman walks sure footedly...
but a woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls.
June 14 Friday!!Well, it's Friday!! And this weekend is just MONSTROUSLY busy for me!! Jenn's father-in-law will be here to visit from Canada, so little Miss Maddie will be up to visit!! 10th ANNUAL So everyone celebrate Father's Day! My friend, Dory, is posting people's Father's Day posts this week and weekend, and has one of mine to post.. I'm not sure when. She did this in May for Mother's Day, too! So, go read people's stories for Father's Day! And all of you fathers.. Happy Father's Day!!! June 09 The Chocolate Oracle
I'm baaack!! And I'm better.. sorry about the drama.. a bratty family member surprising me with how bratty they've been allowed to be! Sometimes they can really hurt you, when you're not "on guard", which I am not with family.. rest assured I will be with this one, from now on.. I'm not very good at "on guard"... I've had to learn it due to an ex-in-law that won't go away.. guess I'll have to extend it a little! I'm just tired of the drama!
Well, everyone missed Yellow's birthday on Sunday! I can't remember how old he is.. but I'm sure it's older than dirt..
So, go wish him a belated happy birthday! Dirty old man..LOL Ya know I love ya, friend!! It's been raining a blue streak here! I think this part of the country is tankin' up on water! We've had wwwaaaaaaayyy more rain than normal this spring! I love storms, so mostly I love this! Hope others are getting at least what water you need.. and get ready for Father's day this weekend!!![]() June 06 Painful thingsHow do you get past things? You know that feeling you get when family or someone you trust does or says something that just yanks you up short? Because it means they don't care for you like you thought? Because it means they put other things first before you and your feelings? And you had no idea? And as you think about it, you realize it's been going on for a while.. and you get hot in the face with humiliation and pain..and feel that stabbing feeling in your soul.. And then you realize you can't even blame someone for how they feel.. you're just so disappointed in them.. and they probably can't help how they feel.. but they can help how they act.. but they don't. How do you get past that? How do you just stuff it down like it doesn't even matter? How do you keep from giving them that power over you? I know I will be ok.. and it won't even be as important later.. but sometimes it's a shock at first. |
